The instructions are not an exhaustive pattern; they are more about the numbers and sizes of blocks needed for the quilt.

Jekyll and Hyde

This quilt can't decide who it is--calm, sedate Dr. Jekyll (churn dash blocks) or wild, crazy Mr. Hyde (string blocks).

Quilting it was also a Jekyll and Hyde experience--smooth, problem-free quilting, until I would run into a fabric that shredded my thread! As befits the name, I'm of two minds about it--I can't decide if I like it or not!

Zesty Donation Quilt

In an effort to stretch my color and fabric print boundaries, I ordered a couple of mystery charm packs from MO Star Quilt Company. I figured it was the luck of the draw--they would either be colors I loved or colors that I probably should use more often.


Here is what I received:

The solid yellow and background are from my stash.

The name of the line is Zest. To make best use of the prints in the charm pack, I decided on a D9P, so I wouldn't have to cut the charms.

Here is the result:

Only one extra block this time--I'm improving! It went on the back.

Not my favorite colors or prints, but it should make someone happy! I'll have to try this again--stretching is good for me.

Thrifty Purchase

The quilt I am working on right now is a gift, so I can't show pictures of it.


Last week, I made a thrifty purchase from Marshall Dry Goods Wholesale. I receive ads from them, but usually the amounts are too much for me. This time, however, the offering was a tone-on-tone flat-fold bundle.

Each is different in pattern and/or tone.

The bundle has fifteen different tone-on-tone fabrics--six yards each. These will be handy because so many quilts I make use this type of fabric. It would also make great backing.


In the end, even with shipping, I paid only $2.02 per yard. Thrifty indeed! If you should decide to order from the wholesale side of Marshall's,  I can recommend Sharon Thomas (Clicking on her name will take you to her email address.) as a sales rep. She was so very helpful to me. Marshall's, of course, also has a retail side--the quality and pricing is wonderful--give them a try--retail or wholesale. (This isn't a paid endorsement--I just love their goods.)


I hope to make some beautiful things with this fabric.
