I finished the units for clue 5! Here are a few of them.
Grassy Creek--Clue 5 |
Included my buddy, Waldo, this week. |
Waldo is easy to find here, but when the quilt is together, he will be a challenge! 🔎
Still keeping up! Clue 4 did some combining of parts to make a new unit.
I'm working on Part 5 today, and I'm really enjoying this mystery!
Happy Holidays! 🎄
So far, I'm keeping up with the clues in Bonnie Hunter's Grassy Creek mystery.
Haven't trimmed the dog ears yet! |
It is a lot of fun, and it is not too late to start!
The second clue of the Bonnie Hunter mystery quilt, Grassy Creek, came out this week.
Grassy Creek--Clue 2 |
These are just a few of the units. I'm substituting blue for the green Bonnie used. The blue fabric is a tie-dye type, so I'm getting a bit of color variation in the units. I like that--it adds interest. Below is the photo I'm using for color inspiration:
More to come. 😺
Once again, I am doing the Bonnie Hunter mystery quilt; this year it is entitled Grassy Creek. The first clue was given on the day after Thanksgiving.
These are just a few of my units. Much more to come . . .
I just love this pattern!
Floral Trip Around the World 90" x 100" |
Floral Trip Around the World (back and binding detail) |
I made this quilt once before with a travel theme. This time I used florals and a range of solid colors. It was another quilt that requires careful planning and organization, but it was fun to make!
I used a cheater fabric for the back to continue the floral idea, then I added a striped binding to finish. It is brighter than it looks in the photo--I took the photo on a cloudy day.
Happy Quilting!
I know someone who loves lavender!
Kaffe Fassett Nine-Patch 98" x 98" |
Kaffe Fassett Nine-Patch (detail) |
Kaffe Fassett Nine-Patch (back and binding detail) |
I combined lavender and purple with a Kaffe Fassett jelly roll (and a little extra from a KF layer cake) to make this quilt. Setting the blocks on point with sashings and cornerstones gives it a look different than the standard nine-patch.
I had never used a jelly roll (2.5" x WoF) before. I liked the variety of fabrics; the roll was cut accurately (without pinking!); and the fabric was excellent quality and very soft. That being said, I didn't particularly like the jelly roll format and will likely not buy another one. In a quilt like this one, I think it would have been easier to piece if the fabrics had been starched a bit, and I was afraid that I would warp the precut strips by starching and pressing. Charm packs (5" squares), layer cakes (10" squares), and fat quarters (18" x 20") are fairly easy to starch when a firmer hand is needed.
I do like the way this turned out, though. I think the lavender and purple work well with the KF fabric which, typical for the designer, is wildly colored with big, bold prints! :)
Thanks for stopping by! 😸
It looks like chaos, but I do have a method!
I keep telling myself to make smaller quilts, but I don't listen very well. 🙉
This is another quilt I made with the scrap QST blocks.
QST Quilt--78" x 78" |
QST Quilt (backing and binding detail) |
You can see the previous quilt I made with these blocks HERE.
I used a straight setting, neutral sashing, and charcoal grey cornerstones with this one (the first one was on-point).
Sometimes, simple blocks are the best. 🌞
This is a very traditional quilt.
Traditional QST on Point (64" x 72") |
Traditional QST on Point (detail) |
Traditional QST on Point (back and binding detail) |
I had a bunch of scrap squares and decided to make QST (Quarter-square Triangles) blocks with them. I knew that somewhere down the road, I would find a home for them. This is one of two tops in which I used them (the other still needs to be basted and quilted). I set them on point and used alternate neutral QST squares to add depth.
Nothing fancy here--just a very traditional quilt.
Enjoy your Labor Day holiday! 😊
Another string quilt!

It's a little crazy--I have another in the works that I think will show the secondary pattern to better effect.

Frolic 88" x 88" |
Frolic (detail)--I wanted to add Kermit the Frog because of a funny segment on Sesame Street that ended, "Everybody Frolic!" |
Frolic (detail)--What's a busy scrap quilt without a Waldo to Find? |
Frolic (border and backing detail)--Excuse the chalk lines; they will wash out. |
Frolic (detail)--Cats, elephants, funny faces, and the Eiffel Tower |
Frolic (detail)--Mary Poppins, more funny faces, and gooseneck desk lamps--there is a fabric for everything! |
Dash/Cross 80" x 80" |

These are red and yellow-gold, a combination I hadn't seen before. The yellow/gold shows up best when it is cloudy; the sun seems to change it to a whiter shade. |
