I had a couple of finishes this week.

First is the latest Bonnie Hunter mystery, Old Town. I changed the colors a little, but otherwise followed her instructions.

I also finished a string hourglass. No pattern on this one, I just needed to use some of my many strings!

I'm working on a couple more. Then, I hope to get back to my Sunflower One-Block Wonder.

Happy Quilting! 😸

Pfeffernüsse

I'm still working on several gifts I can't show, but I've also continued building Pfeffernüsse--a Bonnie Hunter pattern.

This quilt uses both QSTs and string blocks.

QST 4-patches and combined string blocks

I think the magic of this pattern is in the arrangement.

Pinwheel!

I love the way the string blocks come together to form pinwheels. I still have lots of blocks to make for the full effect, but you can see a hint of it from these four blocks.

Thanks for visiting.

Random Ohio Stars--Basted!

I got the quilt sandwiched and glue basted this week--still working toward the finish.

Backing

Now, how to quilt it? Of all the steps in making a quilt, quilting is my weakest skill. I usually rely on SiTD, and that's what I will likely do here, but I'm still pondering.

Ohio Star Block

Since posting the hourglass or Quarter Square Triangle (QST) block last week, I've been looking for ways to use it. Today, I tried an Ohio Star block.

I pulled out some 7" squares from the piles that I cut a couple of weeks ago.

I made the QSTs as shown here: Hourglass Blocks

The Ohio Star is a 9-patch block made of 4 QSTs, 4 plain background blocks, and one plain square in the center to match the print of the QSTs. You can see the layout below.

Putting them together is just like any other 9-patch. Pay attention to the orientation, so your stars will emerge.

Here's another.

This is a fun block to make. Give it a try! I'm looking forward to making more to combine in a scrappy quilt.
