A Bit More Retrospection (Bonnie Hunter Designs)

As I was looking back at my Bonnie Hunter Mystery quilts (see previous post), I thought it would be interesting to remind myself of the other BH patterns I have made. I have included  Bonnie's name for the pattern and my name for individual quilts [in brackets], if they differed. The year indicated was the year that I completed the project.

Carolina Chain (2015)

Patches and Pinwheels (2015)

Bricks and Stepping Stones [AKA Autumn Path] (2015)

These were three of my first efforts. I was afraid of the small pieces, so I made the units a bit bigger than the pattern indicated.

Spiderweb [AKA Flowing Flowers] (2015)

This was not a BH pattern--I've done several Spiderweb-type quilts; however, the idea for the offset blocks came from Bonnie's blog as she was constructing her own version.

Random Ohio Stars (2015)

This was a favorite of mine--the little stars were just SO CUTE! 😸

Jamestown Landing (2016)

Jamestown Landing (in red rather than blue) was my first complex BH pattern--lots of little pieces. It took me quite a long time to make the millions of HSTs required (okay, not really millions, but it seemed like it!). Finishing this one felt like an enormous accomplishment.

Pfeffernüse (2016)

This is still one of my favorites--so warm and cozy in brown and red with its flannel backing.

Carolina Chain (2016)

Another Carolina Chain, but this time I made it in Christmas fabrics. This is a great pattern to show off fabric prints.

Twirl Around (2017)

As soon as I saw this quilt pattern, I knew it would be my next project! I switched out the colors, making mine green and rust.

Sand Castles (2019)

This was the most fun I've ever had making a quilt. Sand Castles went together so well that I felt like an expert. I love the way it turned out.

Winter Blues [AKA Summer Sunshine] (2021)

When I saw the pattern for Winter Blues, nothing would do but that I make it in yellows. I don't know why--yellow isn't my favorite color, but I'm so pleased that I went with my impulse. This quilt is on my bed now, and it simply brightens my day every time I look at it! 😎

So, in looking back, I find that, including the mysteries, I have completed twenty-one Bonnie Hunter patterns! Wow--I wouldn't have believed that possible when I began. 😺

I'm not sure what my next BH project will be (other than this year's mystery), but I'm ready to make another quilt. Stay tuned!

Happy Quilting! 😸

Blogger's Quilt Festival--Twirl Around

I'm excited to be a part of the Blogger's Quilt Festival (Fall 2017) at Amy's Creative Side.

Twirl Around is a Bonnie Hunter design from her latest book Addicted to Scraps. I changed the colors from pink and green to rust and green.

Thanks to Amy for hosting the Festival!

Twirl Around--Finished

I have finished Twirl Around from Bonnie Hunter's latest book, Addicted to Scraps.

What a fun quilt to make! I'm pleased with the result.

Twirl Around, Part 2

I'm continuing to work on Twirl Around, from Bonnie Hunter's new book. You can find more information HERE.

After trimming all the HSTs (!), I have started putting the blocks together. The quilt has two basic blocks: the Twirl Around block and an alternate block.

I'm enjoying this process, though trying to make sure everything is turned the right way is a bear of a job for me! I think I'm going to find a few more rusts to mix in--I think it needs a bit more variety.

More later!

Twirl Around, Part 1

Bonnie Hunter's newest book, Addicted to Scraps, has several amazing quilts in it. I remember at one point, either on her blog or Quiltcam, she was working on a block called Twirl Around that I loved--it is in the new book!

This blog post gives you a look inside the book.

No question in my mind, I knew what my first project from the book would be. Being me, though, you know I have to change things! Instead of pink HSTs, I'm going with green, and where Bonnie uses green, I plan to use a golden-rust (I think--still mulling it over).

First step, 7,000,000,000 HSTs. (Well maybe not quite that many!)

They still need to be trimmed, so I have my work cut out (literally) for me.

To be continued . . .

Pfeffernüsse is Pfinished!

I've made several Bonnie Hunter quilts this year: Allietare, Jamestown Landing, Carolina Chain (haven't shown that one yet; it's a secret!), Old Tobacco Road, and I've just finished Pfeffernüsse. Can you tell I'm clearing the decks for this year's mystery En Provence?

My first post about Pfeffernüsse is HERE.

This was a fun quilt to make--I love string blocks; I love pinwheels; I love multi-pattern neutrals; I love red. (Okay, I don't love making QSTs so much, but they were worth it in this case!)  This pattern can be found in Bonnie Hunter's book, String Fling.

The quilt is nearly 90" x 90"--and backed with flannel, so it was a bit of a bear to quilt on my DSM, but perseverance pays off!

The photos aren't great--it was a VERY sunny day!

I'm looking forward to this year's mystery quilt to begin the day after Thanksgiving. Will I work on it exclusively? Actually, I've already started HSTs for Twirl Around from Bonnie's new book, Addicted to Scraps. *grin*  Yes, I am a quilt addict (and PROUD of it!).

Quiltmaking Withdrawal!

I've been under the weather for a couple of weeks, so I haven't done a lot of sewing.

I have been working around the edges of things, though. I have my mystery quilt top finished--now to quilt it!

I have a couple of extra blocks which I'm going to use to make throw pillows. I plan to donate the quilt and pillows to our adopted departmental holiday family in December.

I also participated in a mystery block group. Here is my block:

I'm not sure if I will make more now, but I like the block and will use it in the future.

I've also started Bonnie Hunter's Twirl Around quilt from her new book. It will take a while--I need over 700 2" HSTs! Slow and steady...

Now that I'm feeling better, I hope to get moving on my projects--I've missed my fabric and machine!
