Unity Quilt Along

I'm doing Bonnie Hunter's Quilt Along entitled Unity. It is a medallion quilt with a new round added each week.

Here is my center block without sashing.

I used constant fabrics of each color for the block. My plan is to use different constant colors in each round. I think this will help calm the chaos, and I'll only need to pull out four fabrics each week, instead of everything!

It has been a VERY long time since I've posted. I've been working on projects, but life has kept me very busy!

I've a couple of finishes to show you. First, a bear paw quilt.

For the pads of the paws, I used string blocks of scrappy browns. I finished it with a string border.

I also finished my Celtic Solstice. I used constant blender fabrics--I wanted the pattern to shine!

The dark color is actually a very dark brown rather than black as it looks in the photo.

I backed it with a soft, beige flannel--it will be a warm one! 😀

I'm still working on Frolic--it needs to be sandwiched and quilted. I've also got other things in progress, and I hope to share them soon.

I'm working from home for the rest of the semester, so I plan to post a bit more often. Take care of yourselves, and WASH YOUR HANDS! 😷

Frolic (Clue #2) and Quilt Delivery

Clue #2 of Frolic, Bonnie Hunter's mystery quilt, was an easy one. As usual, when I'm cutting strips from scraps, I made too many, but they will find a home somewhere. :)

Donations and Mysteries

Very full post--I've been procrastinating about photos!

I made a mystery quilt with Kevin the Quilter this summer.

I call it Cherry Mash because the colors reminded me of the old-fashioned candy made here in Missouri.

He called it Simply Sensational Summer Scrap Quilt. Thanks, Kevin, for the fun!

I completed another three donation quilts. The agency to which I donate will be setting up their Christmas room later this week, so I'll be taking several quilts I made this year to them.

All are made with 3.5" squares and these three have pieced backing and binding.


I'm also doing Bonnie Hunter's mystery, Frolic, this year. So far, we have made four-patches. As usual, I made WAY too many. I'm going to save the extras with my extras from past years. At some point, I'll combine them all and call the resulting quilt Mysterious Leftovers!

Expecting a Baby

No, not I!

My son and his wife will be parents in November. What is an Abuela to do in that situation? Make a quilt, of course!

I was going to try to make a calm, sedate baby quilt, but my style choices are usually about as peaceful as a riot. Once I saw the Laurel Burch flannel--I was a goner. No more plans for pale green and grey--I wanted her wild animals.

I went with a simple pattern to show off the fabrics. Also, since today's babies lie ON quilts more than UNDER them, I wanted something without too many seams to create uncomfortable lumps.

I made sure that I didn't make the top too wide--I wanted to showcase the backing fabric without having to interrupt the pattern to widen it.

I had such fun working with these prints. I would find myself staring into the animals' eyes, just enjoying Burch's artistry. I hope my granddaughter enjoys it, too.
